Windows and Doors
Wood integrates nature with your home and offers a certain warmth, depth and texture
that you cannot achieve with other materials working with both contemporary and period properties.
Sash Window Specialists
Windows are such an important part of every building.
At Marley Building and Joinery we can refurbish and restore your original sash windows,
or replace with new, returning them to their former fully operational glory.
Replacement
We will always endeavour to restore your sash windows first and foremost but in cases where the deterioration has gone beyond the point of no return it is often more practical to replace the window sashes with new double-glazed units.
Most sash windows were made to suit the proportions of the house they were installed in and are generally of a non-standard size. As such we will make new “made to measure”, bespoke hardwood sash windows at our joinery workshop, seamlessly replicating the originals and retaining your homes authentic period style.
As our window sashes are handmade by our highly skilled craftsmen we have total quality control of the manufacturing process. The craftsmen who make the sashes will also install them in your property.
If your renovation plans include altering your listed building, home or project in a conservation area or locations covered by an article 4 Direction, consent made be required to go ahead. Historic features should be retained wherever possible using traditional skills, and this is where our team of expert craftsmen shine.
Repairs
We expertly restore draughty rattling and unloved sash windows – replacing rotten wood by splicing in new timber and replacing snapped sash cords, broken or cracked glass, pulleys, window furniture, window locks etc. We can install a draught proofing system in and around the moving sashes.
Our unobtrusive innovations don’t compromise the aesthetics of the original window; instead they enhance them, eliminating cold draughts, rattles, leaks and heat loss. It will also deliver better security. The reduction in outside noise will be significant.
Your windows will open and close as they did when they were originally installed!
Sash windows have fantastic longevity but they can fall onto disrepair with the passing of time – we often see sash windows “painted in” and crying out for some TLC.
The solution is simple. Give us a call and we will return your windows to their former glory!
Types of windows
We do not just specialise in making and fitting sash windows but also making and fitting of all forms of window types including:
- Casement windows
- Bay windows
- Bow windows
- Awning windows
- Dormer windows
- Skylights

Bespoke Door Crafting
A front door is much more than a means of access or a barrier against intruders. It’s the
first impression a visitor will get from a house and those living in it.
An entryway is designed to impress, and the door becomes the natural focus of this
attention. A flicker of colour, an unusual turn of moulding or a perfect match – whether
architecturally, or merely in character with the house around it – is all it takes to
distinguish a dreary slab of wood (or white plastic) from something striking and
wonderfully unique.
Doors are extraordinary examples of the joiners art; many dating from hundreds of years ago that are still in use today.
Where possible, wooden door repair/restoration is the preferred solution to a damaged door; rather than simply replacing with new. The price tag is lower, it helps maintain the heritage of your home and its better for the environment too.
Whether it’s a small crack or gaping hole, we can provide an effective solution for your external or interior wooden door. Our repairs will tackle the root cause, ensuring your front, back and even garage door is ready to stand the test of time.
Unlike uPVC alternatives which need to be fully replaced whenever there is a problem, wooden doors can be repaired again and again. That’s the joy of natural wood.
Typical issues we can fix:
- Poor draught proofing
- Cracked panels
- Decay or rot
- Worn door furniture
- Loose hinges
- Broken door frames
Crucially we tailor each restoration to the requirements of your property and your door.

Replacing an exterior door from a period property can be difficult as to find a new door that matches the original property’s style and character is not easy, and in some cases impossible.
At Marley Building and Joinery, this is not a problem as we make our own bespoke
wooden doors and then install them. Whatever style or size we can make so the choice is unlimited. Making and installing our own doors means we have full quality control.
Doors are supplied with locks, high quality hinges and a choice of door furniture to
match your requirements. Thermal efficiency, improved security and amazing kerb appeal are just some of the benefits you can expect.
We also make and fit French doors, stable doors, bifold doors etc.

We also supply and fit internal doors; whether that is a bespoke door made in our workshop or doors pre-made from a major supplier.
