Extensions and Conversions

Your Home Expanded

Extending your home is a great idea when you want to create more living space for your family and adding value to your property. There is no need to move away from your lovely home when you can renovate and extend instead.

Whatever ways you are considering adding extra space to your home you have to get it right first time with the right building contractor.

Marley Building and Joinery have been building extensions for decades and have all the knowledge and skills to manage the build of these large scale projects.

Types of home extensions to explore:

Rear extensions

As the name implies a rear extension is placed at the back of your home, extending into the current garden or patio area.

They are typically used to create larger open plan living spaces and blend the indoor/outdoor space. A small extension can usually be done without planning permission.

Side return extensions

Have you got an alleyway or path down the side of your house. Many periodproperties do, and they are typically the home for bins and garden bits and bobs adding little valueto the overall living experience.

For this reason, side extensions are very popular as a way of extending your home.

Double storey extensions

Double storey extensions mean that you take one of the three shapes described above and extend them over two floors as opposed to one.

The advantage of this is you gain twice the space but not double costs. This is because the costs of the foundations etc. are tied into the lower floor and creating an additional floor above is less work overall.

Wrap around extensions

Combine a side return and rear extension, moving the outer walls in two directions.

They are great for extending your living space dramatically and really suit family living, creating huge open plan spaces where you can get decent sized kitchen, dining area and seating space all in the same room.

Dormer extensions/loft extensions:

Most people’s attic house junk that’s “too good to throw away” . If this is you, then a dormer extension might be a good option to better use your space. A dormer extension removes the pitch of the roof and creates a flat lined roof in line with the top of the current pitch, so you get a squared off box shape room. These are ideal for creating extra bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. They do not take away any garden space and rarely require planning permission.

Garage conversions

A perfect way to add extra space to your home without extending. They are

usually cheaper, quicker and easier to carry out so that while they are not necessarily a cheap

project, they are certainly one of the most cost effective ways to add space to your home.
